April Fishing Report – Wareham’s Pond
Spring has officially arrived at Wareham’s Pond, and the fish are acting like it. Both crappie and largemouth bass are in the midst of their pre-spawn and spawning routines, which means now is one of the best times of year to get on the water.
Expect to find fish shallow—hugging the banks, tucked into cover, or cruising just off the edge of the beds. It’s a textbook spring pattern: warm afternoons, rising water temps, and fish that are hungry, territorial, and looking to lock in for the spawn.
Conventional anglers will do best with weedless soft plastics. Think Texas-rigged worms, creature baits, and flukes—anything you can crawl, twitch, or deadstick near structure without getting hung up.
Fly anglers have been finding success on shallow float-n-fly setups, weedless worm imitations, and topwater bugs during low-light hours. If you're looking for an eat you’ll remember, get out early or stay late—those pond explosions are worth the wait.
It’s all happening right now, and it's only getting better by the day.
